An extensive two-month journey around Australia has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an senior lady who was abandoned by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the party for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned several hours later after the crew realised the lady was not present.

A large-scale hunt located her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

The vessel originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the first stop on the itinerary.
