Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session. The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the wall. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the last turn on to the main straight. The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver. Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
